Root Canal Treatment in Virginia Beach: Relieve Tooth Pain and Save Your Smile
Root canal treatment, also known as endodontic treatment, is a dental procedure Dr. Santos uses to treat infection or damage to the pulp inside a tooth. The pulp is the soft tissue at the center of a tooth that contains nerves, blood vessels, and connective tissue. When the pulp becomes infected or damaged, it can cause pain, swelling, and even abscesses.
A root canal procedure involves removing the infected or damaged pulp and cleaning and sealing the inside of the tooth. The procedure is performed at our Virginia Beach dental office.

The first step in a root canal procedure is to numb the affected tooth and surrounding area with a local anesthetic. Once the area is numb, the dentist will create a small hole in the top of the tooth to access the pulp chamber.
Next, the infected or damaged pulp is removed from the tooth using specialized tools. The inside of the tooth is then cleaned and shaped to prepare it for filling.
Once the inside of the tooth is cleaned and shaped, it is filled with a special material called gutta-percha. This material helps to seal the tooth and prevent further infection.
After the tooth has been filled, it may be capped with a dental crown to provide additional support and protection.
Most patients experience little to no pain during a root canal procedure, and the procedure itself is relatively quick and straightforward. After the procedure, you may experience some sensitivity or discomfort, but this should subside within a few days.
Root canal treatment is an effective way to save a damaged or infected tooth and avoid the need for extraction. With proper care, a tooth that has undergone a root canal procedure can last a lifetime.
